Townsville

Often described as the "unofficial capital of North Queensland," Townsville was founded in 1856 when an enterprising sea captain built a wharf on Cleveland Bay. The city lies at the very north of the Dry Tropics, where the outback bush meets the waters of the Coral Sea. Today's travelers are drawn to Townsville's superb location. Queensland's fabled Wet Tropics World Heritage Area lies just to the north of the city. Towering over Townsville is Castle Rock, a 1,300-foot monolith of pink granite that provides sweeping views of Townsville, Cleveland Bay and Magnetic Island.

Cairns (Yorkeys Knob)

Yorkeys Knob is a coastal suburb of Cairns, in Cairns Region, Far North Queensland, Australia. Swim, sail, wind-surf, snorkel or dive on the Great Barrier Reef, or visit the World Heritage Rain Forests and Cairns City.

Willis Island

Willis Island is the only permanently inhabited island in the Coral Sea Islands Territory. Located beyond the Great Barrier Reef, this island stands 280 miles from Cairns. The only residents on the 7.7-hectare sandy island are a handful of Australian Bureau of Meteorology staff members working at the weather monitoring station. The main attractions are the sights youll see as you cruise through the Coral Sea. Spot tropical birds like black noodies, sooty terns and wedge-tailed shearwaters. Cruise to Willis Island to see the Great Barrier Reef stretch beneath the turquoise waters and the exotic fish that swim here, including angel fish, clown fish and hammerhead sharks.

Airlie Beach

Airlie Beach is the tourism mainland hub for the Whitsundays, where you can take on activities either on the beautiful water or the verdant greens of the rainforest. You'll instantly feel the holiday as you enjoy the tropical atmosphere when you stroll through cafes, restaurants, boutiques, and souvenir stores.
