Walvis Bay is a port town on the coast of Namibia. Sheltered by the Pelican Point sand spit, its tidal lagoon is home to abundant birdlife including flamingos, pelicans and Damara terns. The harbor is busy with fishing boats and ships. Dolphins, whales and Cape fur seals inhabit the Atlantic waters around the Pelican Point Lighthouse. East of the bay, coastal sand dunes like Dune 7 mark the start of the Namib Desert.
Luanda
Sitting on the Western Coast of Africa, the port of Luanda is the capital and largest city in Angola. Founded by the Portuguese in 1575, the city has had a tumultuous history, finally achieving peace in 2002 after a long civil war. Now with a swelling population and surge of construction, the city is experiencing a rebirth. Take a break from the busy city and visit nearby Mussulo, a spit of land covered in coconut palms, bungalows and bars, and featuring wide sandy beaches and calm waters.
Sao Tome and Principe
Sao Tome and Príncipe, an African island nation close to the equator, is part of a volcano chain featuring striking rock and coral formations, rainforests and beaches. On the larger island, Sao Tome, is the Lagoa Azul lagoon. Obo Natural Park, a biodiverse jungle preserve, covers much of Sao Tome and is distinguished by Pico Cão Grande, a skyscraperlike volcanic rock.
Abidjan
Located in West Africa. Its the country's major urban center, with skyscrapers rising above the Ebrie Lagoon. Modern landmarks include La Pyramide, a ziggurat like building.
Dakar
At the westernmost point of the African continent, Dakar stands as a multicultural, diverse city full of vibrant arts and traditions. Residents from various ethnic groups present assorted crafts, foods, jewelry, fabrics and wood and metal goods at bustling markets such as Marche Sandaga or Marche HLM. Santa Cruz de la Palma
Santa Cruz de La Palma is the capital city of the island of La Palma, in Spain's Canary Islands. It's known for its centuries-old architecture, cobbled streets and busy port. A former convent hosts the Museum of the Island of La Palma, with an art collection and exhibits on natural history and ethnography. The Naval Museum is in a replica of Christopher Columbuss 15th-century Santa Maria sailing ship.
Madeira
