Seabourn combines ultra-luxury with expedition-style flair to bring you a more in-depth experience of the area’s nature, history, forestry and wildlife.

Suspended on the blue expanse of the South Pacific Ocean are worlds as different from each other as they are from anywhere else. Follow the course of the earliest native explorers who spread their cultures by canoe, guided only by the currents, the waves and stars. An astonishing variety of sights await you: towering peaks, steaming geysers and sprawling vineyards, mighty fjords and quaint villages, vivid coral reefs.

ITINERARY HIGHLIGHTS

Cascade Bay has one of the two jetties used for maritime access to Norfolk Island, the other being at Kingston on the opposite coast. The island had been occupied by Polynesians, but they were centuries gone when Captain Cook landed on his second voyage in 1774. The British used it as a penal outpost along with the Australian mainland. The permanent population began with the relocation of 196 mixed-race Pitcairn Islanders in 1856. The island is a volcanic remnant, and its shoreline largely consists of cliffs. The main settlement is Burnt Pine. The area around the base f Mount Bates is preserved as Norfolk Island National Park, about 10 percent of the island, and holds the remaining native forest, including the distinctive tall, Norfolk Island pines, and several indigenous palms and tree ferns. You may possibly hear some locals speaking the creole “Norfuk” language, a mix of 18th century English and Tahitian.

Mystery Island is a tiny uninhabited islet near the island of Aneityum in Vanuatu. The local name for the island is Inyeug in the Anejom language. The island has been developed into a castaway-type resort for visiting cruise ships, with water sports and cultural activities, as well as shopping for locally produced handcrafts. Snorkeling and swimming, hiking the island’s short trails and getting to know the islanders who travel from close islands to serve the facility make for a nice, relaxing day in a South Pacific paradise.

The vibrant heart of Viti Levu's southeastern coast, beckons with its tropical allure. Suva stands as the cosmopolitan nucleus of the South Pacific, housing approximately a third of Fiji's populace. The architecture of this urban gem is heavily influenced by the British colonists who moved from Levuka to relocate Fiji's capital here in 1882, thanks to its inviting deep harbor and ample lands. Amidst modern high-rises, remnants of the British colonial era adorn the cityscape, a testament to its enduring role as a trade hub.

Apia, the largest city on the island of Upolu in Samoa has rich cultural heritage. The largest town and capital of Samoa, Apia is also the nation’s only city. With a population of over 35,000 people, and home to a busy port, the city is situated in a natural harbour at the mouth of the Vaisigano River. It shows an eclectic and fascinating mixture of traditional Samoan houses and 19th century churches and buildings. Shops, markets and bars with a thriving nightlife can be found amidst the colonial vibe. Samoan culture is abundant everywhere, and outrigger canoes can be seen in the harbour. Interesting fish and unusual fruits fill the markets. The city’s most famous resident was the writer Robert Louis Stevenson, who moved here due to poor health and bronchial issues. He died in 1894 and is buried on the island and his house now operates as a museum.

The island of Hawaii, called the Big Island, is the largest, youngest and most changeable of the Hawaiian Islands. It was the last in the chain to be formed and is still creating and re-creating itself. Lava flowing to the ocean in a sustained, years-long eruption of Kilauea, the world's most continuously active volcano, has added 300 new acres of topography, while it has demolished some of the island's most treasured landmarks, including a 200 year old black sand beach. It was on this island that the Polynesian voyagers are believed to have first set foot in Hawaii about 500-750 CE, and it was here that Kamehameha the Great was born and died, and Captain James Cook was killed.
