Your voyage begins in Tokyo, Japan’s bustling capital city, where modern marvels brush up against ancient architecture and traditions, creating a fascinating duality that has to be seen to be believed. From here, you’ll enjoy a day relaxing aboard your boutique hotel at sea before arriving in the quaint seaside city of Aomori, where an assortment of museums along the harborfront tantalize art and history buffs.

Akita is next, and the home of Tazaw—Japan’s deepest lake—does not disappoint. Take some time to explore the hot springs here, or visit the Shirakami-Sanchi World Heritage Property—home to the elusive serow. Lively Niigata, historic Kanazawa, and the charming fishing port of Sakaiminato are next, followed by a sail across the Korea Strait to Busan. South Korea’s second-largest city, Busan’s vibrant culture, steaming hot springs, and incredible gastronomy scene are sure to leave a lasting impact. And since we’re staying late, you’ll have plenty of time to experience everything this exuberant metropolis has to offer.

Then it’s back to Japan for a late-night stay in Kitakyushu, where cherry blossoms paint the city—and the iconic Kokura Castle—in vibrant pink hues. We’re also staying late in cosmopolitan Hiroshima. While here, sample their legendary oysters and the signature Hiroshima-style Okonomiyaki, a savory pancake layered with noodles and meat.

We’ll be cruising the Inland Sea of Japan next before a late-night in the Udon Kingdom, Takamatsu. This nickname comes from the assortment of famous (and delicious) udon noodle dishes available here, so be sure to pack your appetite. The fun continues for the foodies amongst us at our next port, Kobe. Perhaps best known for the beef that shares its name, Kobe is a wonderfully walkable city. It’s easy to get around and see the sights here, including Shinto shrines and the stunning Himeji Castle. And all that walking will no doubt work up your appetite. Luckily, you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy a delicious meal highlighted by exquisitely marbled Kobe beef on this overnight stop. Still hungry? Sample some sobameshi, a unique mixture of fried rice and noodles you’ll be hard-pressed to find anywhere else.

Japan’s most legendary landmark, Mount Fuji, awaits in Shimizu. Then, we return to Tokyo to conclude this voyage with an overnight stay in one of the great cities of the world.
