A Greek Odyssey

Ancient ruins, white-washed walls, blindingly blue skies, and even bluer waters. Greece is truly the stuff of myths and legends. We depart from one of the world’s truly great cities, Istanbul, where you can visit the Hagia Sophia Mosque, once the greatest church in Christendom, or lose yourself in thousands of shops and 60 streets of the Grand Bazaar, one of the oldest and largest covered markets in the world.

Next, in the off-the-beaten-path but extraordinarily beautiful Kavala, find a spot under a straw-thatched umbrella on one of the city’s treasured beaches, or walk to the top of the Byzantine castle built in 1425 that sits like a crown atop the city. History buffs will enjoy a late-night stay in Thessaloniki, the cultural capital of Greece and home to 15 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

From there, we enjoy another late stay in one of the country’s prettiest cities, Volos. Visit the six magical monasteries of Meteora, carved high atop giant rock columns, and tap into the mystique, peace, and harmony of this ethereal setting. In the medieval city of Rhodes, we stay late so you can walk the streets of Old Town Rhodes at night, an absolute pleasure without the daytime crowds. 

An overnight in vibrant and cosmopolitan Mykonos gives you time to stroll along the maze-like cobblestone streets exploring artists’ shops and enjoying a glass or two of ouzo, or embark on an excursion to the uninhabited island Delos, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In Athens, Europe’s oldest city, there are spectacular ruins aplenty to explore, such as the Parthenon.

From Athens we’ll head to Kusadasi, Turkey, for a late-night stay where you’ll enjoy plenty of time to explore the ancient attractions in Ephesus, including the Library of Celsus, the Odeon, and the marble Arcadian Street.

During your late night in Santorini, set aside time to indulge in its panoramic views and a glass of naturally sweet vinsanto—a pairing we promise will please your palate. With a history that dates back to the 9th century, it’s a good thing you have a late stay and lots of time to discover Heraklion. 

During a late stay in Zakynthos, make the trip to Shipwreck Beach, a crescent-shaped beach surrounded by rock walls looking out to clear turquoise waters. It can only be accessed by boat, but is well worth the trip. We stay late in Corfu, perfect for taking your time meandering the maze-like cobblestone streets of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Old Town.

We conclude our epic journey in one of the world’s most captivating cities, Venice, where we encourage you to stay and explore the world-famous canals and storied architecture.
